Nicolas Maduro is the President of Venezuela, a South American country with ties to Russia and Iran.
His policies are claimed to have caused significant damage to the economy and popular belief notes that he has controlled his country as a dictator.
His current policy, for which he claims to have 95% support, is an annexation of Essequibo (Es-key-bo).
Maduro claims that the land, which was a part of Venezuela until 1890s, belongs to his country. The region also has very significant oil reserves.
Essequibo is noted by the UN as part of Guyana, a democratic country led by Irfaan Ali, who have appealed to the West for support.
